Welcome to our chapter and my weekly blog. My name is Tom Matthews, I am a Residential Realtor with Gibson Sothebys, and I joined the Concord BNI chapter in July 2005. During my time in BNI, I have served in many leadership roles including, but not limited to, President (twice), and I also had the opportunity to work for BNI for 4 years as a Director and Trainer. My goal with this blog is to share my personal experiences and to help lead other business people to have success in BNI and in their respective careers. My experience in the Concord BNI chapter has changed my life (met my wife from a referral) and I want to help others have a similar experience. I hope in time to make this an interactive site where prospective members and members alike, can ask questions that I can respond to and help you make more money! The biggest fear people have joining BNI is their fear of public speaking and I assure you I shared this same fear when I started. My first 10 minute presentation I was so nervous that I did it in 3 minutes and sat down. I was sweating like crazy, but I had prepared and people knew that and they respected me getting up their and challenging my fears. We train you at BNI to get out side your comfort zone so that you can improve. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing and expecting different results. If you want to improve you need to do something different, and you need to be consistent. I will cover books I recommend for business enhancement, training seminars, and ways to implement better BNI practices such as the Networking, Sales manager moment, 1-2-1’s, 10-minutes, passing referrals, and the “I Have” section. Stay tuned as my next entry will be on delivering a dynamic Sales Manager moment with the intent to position yourself first in the minds of your prospect. We will be referencing Jack Trout who wrote Positioning.
